Why Choose Exposed Aggregate?

Exposed aggregate concrete showcases a mix of materials like stones, pebbles, sand, recycled glass, or shells, offering a variety of colors, textures, and styles.

This type of concrete achieves its unique look whenever a contractor removes the top layer using methods such as a chemical inhibitor, water washing, or etching.

With exposed aggregate, you can choose from a variety of colors like white, gray, black, brown, blue, tan, and multicolor. Mix and match to create unique borders, shapes, and patterns. Your local concrete experts will help you find your home or business’ perfect style, texture, and color.

At Brothers Concrete, we’ll help you design a personalized look for your outdoor space that will last for many years to come.

The Process of Creating Exposed Aggregate Concrete

To craft exposed aggregate concrete, there are primarily two approaches: mixing and seeding (or topping).

The traditional method involves blending cement with aggregate materials before the concrete is poured. This technique ensures a consistent appearance throughout the surface. Alternatively, the topping or seeding method involves laying a regular concrete base and then adding a layer of aggregate material on top.

Regardless of the method, the process of creating exposed aggregate concrete includes the application of a chemical surface retarder over the freshly laid concrete. After allowing the concrete to cure for a day, one of our concrete contractors will pressure wash the surface to uncover the decorative elements beneath. Lastly, a sealer is applied afterwards to protect the concrete’s surface.
